This week: We’re back with another round of our most common puzzle type: The Underscore, where musicians and movies collide into a single before-and-after phrase. But this one’s got a brand new overlap type!

What does that mean, you may be asking. Well, there are a number of overlap types:

  • Full Overlap - The shared overlap is a full word in both titles.

    • Saving Private Ryan + Ryan Adams = Saving Private Ryan Adams

  • Partial Overlap - The shared overlap is only part of one of the entries.

    • The Sun is Also a Star + Stardew Valley = The Sun is Also a Stardew Valley

  • Double Partial Overlap - The shared overlap is only part of both of the entries.

    • The Hangover + Overwatch = The Hangoverwatch

  • Nested Overlap - The shared overlap is the entirety of one of the entries. Sometimes one entry may have different or unique punctuation. If that’s the case, the final answer should represent spellings from both entries.

    • The Notorious B.I.G + Big = The Notorious Big

  • Slant Overlap - The overlap word is oh-so-close in both entries, but not quite. I try to avoid these, unless a tight theme requires their use.

    • Legally Blonde + Blondie = Legally Blondie

So what the heck is left?? Well, that’s for U to discover!

Liner Notes: Updates at Culture Clash

Can I interest you in a new keyboard?

Recent Improvements! One of the biggest challenges in setting up Culture Clash has been a way to cycle smoothly through solving all images on mobile. (By the way, if you haven’t Clashed on desktop, you should give in a try! It’s a nice experience!)

On mobile, however, I’ve had some challenges achieving the site stability I desire while using native keyboards, and so I’ve used a custom keyboard. (The native iOS keyboard tends to bounce site contents around, which makes solving and navigating between puzzles a bit chaotic.) They custom keyboard has improved over time, but generally has remained fairly clunky.

But I have now recently made some significant improvements to the mobile keyboard! The typing lag should be noticeably lower, resulting in a better typing experience. And you can now go back and fix typos without having to backspace through your full answer!

How does it feel? Any remaining pain points? Reply to this email and let me know!
